About the Library

History

The Stanton Public has been in operation since 1941. It was recognized entity of the City of Stanton, Iowa ( a southwest community of 714 people), and is managed by a five-member board of trustees. Four of the trustees are appointed by the Stanton mayor and one trustee is appointed by the Stanton School District. All trustees are approved by the Stanton City Council. The board is responsible for hiring a certified librarian, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility.

About the Library Director

Meet Shelley Anderson, our library director.

My name is Shelley Anderson and I am the new library director starting October 1, 2020. I grew up in Villisca, Iowa and graduated from there.  I attended college at Iowa Western Community College with a degree in Business.  I have lived in Stanton for 20 years with my husband Eric.  We have three children.    I worked at Iowa Western Community College for 28 years in the library before taking early retirement.  I love the library and reading and seeing people every day. Reading is one of my hobbies along with gardening and camping, and of course my grandchildren!
